About Cultivating Life
I remember when I was in the 8th grade, we took some kind of standardized test. I don’t remember anything about the format or the questions asked. I just remember tons of questions. A few months later we got results back. One of the things included in the results were potential occupations for us. Mine told me that I could be a teacher or a farmer. A farmer?!?
Well, here it is 30 years later, and I am a teacher. I do my teaching within the context of the Bible and spiritual things. I don’t own any land, or a tractor, or cows. I guess I didn’t fulfill my potential as a farmer.
However, when someone asks me what my approach and philosophy to ministry is, I use some form of the word “cultivate”. When a farmer cultivates, he is preparing the ground to be a good environment for crops to grow. He cares for the crops so that they will be healthy. Everything the farmer does is a process of cultivation that leads to mature produce.
I see myself as a cultivator. I want to cultivate an environment. I want to cultivate a climate. I want to cultivate an attitude. My goal is to see the people I am living life with become transformed. I want to see people come to the realization that the way of Jesus is the best possible way to live. I can’t make this happen, but I can help cultivate an environment that is conducive to that kind of transformation and living.
That’s why this blog is called “Cultivating Life”. My desire is that this point on the internet will be a farming tool in the hand of the Creator. This isn’t a place just for me. Its for you too.
